This upscale restaurant in Veranda Park once sported former NFL quarterback Dan Marino's name and a sports theme. In early 2008, the new Tavern on the Lake features lighter menu entrees and an international wine list as well as cuisine designed and implemented by Chef Patrick Cotrell, who helped develop Darden Restaurants' Seasons 52 menu.

"We are introducing long-planned enhancements to the menu, extraordinary service levels and a completely remodeled place," said Doug Doran, former president of Group Four Restaurants. The remodel also included the addition of several green elements, such as the use of recycled paper and glass products. Doug Doran resigned from Group Four Restaurants in July 2008, leaving Kevin Azzouz, the Veranda Park developer and investor. Doran said plans to launch three new restaurants, a wine bar and small plates concept, a nightclub and a movie theater are now on hold, although Tavern on the Lake remains a going concern.

Tavern on the Lake is part of the 300,000 square foot entertainment district in Veranda Park's town center.
